As the world’s largest coral reef system, it is quite troubling that only 2% of the Great Barrier Reef has escaped bleaching since 1998, an Australian university found. However, research shows that if warming is to be kept at a maximum rise of 1.5 degrees of the average global temperature, the Barrier Reef could still thrive.
